These tapered bore pulleys are commonly used in belt drive systems, to grip the shaft securely without a keyway via a matching taper bush, allowing quick fitting, removal, and adjustment. The taper bush is ordered separately to match the specific shaft diameter required. Because clamping force comes from the taper bush, even tightening of all fixing bolts is important to achieve secure, even grip on the shaft.
